Immediately after the workshop was the Welcome Reception. Julia arrived, after a long drive in, and we talked while she got registered, (she wouldn't give me her raffle ticket either) and then went in to the reception. We were soon joined in line there by Dr. Phil Plait, the Bad Astronomer, Dr. Michael Shermer, Director of the Skeptics Society, and Dr. Ray Hall. We were the Southern (and Central) California contingent, and met with many other friends both old and new during the course of dinner.

Then it was time for the first session of the meeting. Hal introduced Mr. Randi by reading Frost's "The Road Not Taken". This became a theme for the conference, with Hal giving a poem of one sort or another as part of the introduction of each speaker. The poems of Anonymous were featured prominently.
Randi opened the meeting by thanking everyone for coming, and thanking the people who had worked so hard to make it happen. He then introduced the first speaker/performer of the conference, Jamy Ian Swiss.
